![]() What I meant was, they’ll make fun of other writers for not measuring up. And I would think, Say what you will, no one will ever be able to do this again. That meant in post I’d have to spend 40 hours a week. I would do eight stories and try to intertwine them and give every character five dimensions and six backstories - and the show took twenty minutes. Because no one would be stupid enough to try. But the one thing I did feel confident about was: No one will ever be able to do this again. When we were making Arrested Development, it was the hardest thing I’d ever done. (And yes, we ask the obligatory questions about the mythic AD movie.)īy now, you must have noticed that early reviews of Running Wilde have been negative. Here, our virtually uncut probing discussion about Running Wilde and the impossibility of ever again reaching the bar he set with Arrested Development. Before giving his keynote address at the New York Television Festival last week, the writer-producer told us about how he feels more like a hired gun on this series, and has had to accommodate Fox’s wishes for a more accessible show. It turns out that Hurwitz knows exactly how they feel. However, matching up to a show that has achieved comedy sainthood is an impossible task, and the series debuted to poor reviews, (familiarly) low ratings, and a sense of disappointment among hard-core fans who complain that it doesn’t have more of AD’s signature absurdist style. So when Fox announced that one of its stars, Will Arnett, would be reuniting with AD creator Mitch Hurwitz for a new comedy, Running Wilde, fans swooned at their good fortune. The panel also had a touch of Kids Say the Darnest Things when young star Stefania Owen, who plays Russell’s daughter, was asked to talk about her character.Arrested Development spent three seasons in a perpetual state of near-cancellation, and yet even four years after it was finally shut down, it remains spoken of in hushed tones by Comedy Geeks Who Know. “In nutshell, Vanc-over,” is how Serafinowicz summed up the move. Additionally, production has been moved from Vancouver to New York, mostly because of the lack of opulent mansions up north. As a result, the two roles were recently recast, with Robert Michael Morris replacing Jayne Houdeyshell and Mel Rodriguez replacing Joseph A. He pointed to Fox entertainment president’s criticism (which he agreed with) that “we have lost a lot of what was special about the Emmy character,” Steve’s (Arnett) love interest played by Keri Russell.Īdditionally, besides the casting of Cross, the creators re-conceived the characters of Steve’s ex-nanny, which has been given a gender makeover form a matriarch figure to a manny, and that of his driver/friend, who is now “more contemporary to Steve” with a dynamic between him and his boss in the vein of that between Steve Carell and John Krasinski’s characters on The Office. The creators talked about the slew of tweaks to the pilot, that will result in more than a half of it being reshot, according to Hurwitz. a hope of it being cancelled,” but later added that he is “glad to be trying to make a show that attracts larger audience.”Īdded Arnett, “We’re out of our comfort zone and we’re figuring it out.” Arnett, one of the current kings of dead-pan humor, was overshadowed on the panel by recent cast addition Peter Serafinowicz, who is sometime referred to “the British Will Arnett.” (Serafinowicz was recently upped to a regular after guest starring in the pilot.) One example: He followed Hurwitz’s praise of Fox’s support for the project with this take on the network: “It’s come such a long wasy since the days they just did documentaries about foxes,” he said with a completely straight face, drawing big laughs. “But this is a different project, and it has a different set of rules to it.”Īddressing the fact that, with Wilde, he is looking to do a romantic comedy with wider appeal than the off-beat Arrested, Hurwitz confessed that “I have a fear of success…. “We very much loved Arrested Development, we miss it and that’s why we still want to make the movie, Hurwitz said, adding after the session that the script for the movie is halfway done. ![]() The comparisons are inevitable: new Fox comedy series Running Wilde was created by Arrested alums Mitch Hurwitz, Will Arnett and Jim Vallely and stars Arnett, with another Arrested actor, David Cross, recently joining the cast in a recasting. ![]() ![]() If you wondered how long it took before first Arrested Development-related question at the Running Wilde panel came in, it was a couple of minutes.

This test, which is a joint test between staffer Paul Ip and Editor in Chief Chris Gampat, was done on the Mac, PC and the iPad partially because Lightroom CC syncs across a number of platforms. We’ve been playing with the new Adobe Lightroom Classic CC update for a little while now on the Mac, PC and the iPad Air 2. In addition to that, Adobe has added a number of their own options. And for Canon, there are options like Faithful, Landscape, etc. For Sony, being able to add something like their Portrait or Clear simulation is also pretty big. For Fujifilm users, being able to apply the Astia, Velvia or Acros film simulations are huge–and Profiles did those. Profiles are pretty big if you wanted your RAW image to look the way that the JPEG preview did. They’re first and foremost moving to the top of the interface and Adobe has been working with a number of third party companies to create even more. Today, Adobe Lightroom Classic CC is receiving a pretty big update: the way camera profiles work is getting a revamp.
While supportive friends and family hopefully care enough to listen and sympathize with us, it can be frustrating to sit with someone who vents frequently when that person seems to be wallowing in emotion without learning from their experience. Talking and listening with careīesides making us feel worse, venting can also have a negative effect on our audience. ![]() While students thought that venting was beneficial, their post-traumatic stress and depression scores actually went up the more they vented. In one study, researchers surveyed students attending Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University after mass shootings occurred at each campus to see how venting their grief over social media helped them recover. Venting through social media can do the same thing. As the study authors write, their “focus on and venting of emotions was found to be uniquely predictive of longer-term anxiety.” Similarly, students who vented their anxiety after 9/11 suffered from more anxiety up to four months later than those who didn’t. But a randomized controlled study found that this didn’t help much, likely because debriefing doesn’t help distance people from their trauma. While we should of course seek support from those around us during difficult times of loss and pain, if we simply relive our experience without finding some way to soothe ourselves or find meaning, it could extend our suffering.įor some time, people who worked with trauma victims encouraged them to “debrief” afterward, having them talk through what happened to them to ward off post-traumatic stress. ![]() The same is true of grief or anxiety following trauma. Studies on venting anger (without effective feedback), whether online or verbally, have also found it to be generally unhelpful. That’s because encouraging people to act out their anger makes them relive it in their bodies, strengthening the neural pathways for anger and making it easier to get angry the next time around. It turns out, however, that this type of emotional venting likely doesn’t soothe anger as much as augment it. This led to a movement to “let it all out,” with psychologists literally telling people to hit soft objects, like pillows or punching bags, to release pent-up feelings. The dark side of ventingįor many years, psychologists believed that dark emotions, like anger, needed to be released physically. If others simply listen and empathize, they may inadvertently extend our emotional upset. So, while venting may be good for building supportive relationships and feel good in the moment, it’s not enough to help us through. We aren’t able to make sense of what we’re experiencing, to make meaning of it.” ![]() “But if all we do is vent, we don’t address our cognitive needs, too. “When we get stuck in a venting session, it feels good in the moment, because we’re connecting with other people,” he says. Unfortunately, this latter part of the equation often gets lost in the shuffle, he adds. Or, if we get caught in emotional whirlwinds, our confidants can provide new perspectives and offer sound advice, says Kross. Sometimes, just verbalizing what’s bothering us to another person helps to clarify the situation and name the emotions involved. Sharing our feelings also provides an opportunity to gain insight into what’s causing our difficult feelings and avert future upsets. “It feels good to know there’s someone there to rely on who cares enough to take time to listen.” “We want to connect with other people who can help validate what we’re going through, and venting really does a pretty good job at fulfilling that need,” says researcher Ethan Kross, author of the book Chatter. Whether we need to confront someone who’s abusing us, hide to avoid danger, or seek comfort from friends, feelings like anger, fear, and sadness help us prepare to meet the moment.īut if feelings are internal signals, why do we share them with others? Our emotions are valuable sources of information, alerting us that something is wrong in our environment and needs our attention. ![]() Show love and respect to others this month ![]() Beginning at the standard 18 note movement up to a 144 note masterpiece. The ideal inventory turnover ratio for the manufacturing industry highly depends on the specific company’s products and processes. Manufacturing encompasses a wide range of industries, and the products manufactured range from cupcakes to jet engines. ![]() What is the best inventory turnover ratio for manufacturing? This tells you this business took just over 50 days for one inventory turn. To determine how many days it takes to turn over inventory once, divide the number of days in a year by your inventory turnover ratio. So, the value of the average inventory was turned over 7.3 times. You have added two more models to your range by the end of the financial year. That’s a total starting inventory of $11,000. Because you practice lean inventory, you have limited raw materials and MRO in stock, valued at $1,200. This means you turn over your inventory once every 22 days or so. ![]() For example, calculating your inventory for October it would be: If you want to calculate the average time inventory is on hand, divide your inventory turnover ratio by the number of days. That means you have turned over your inventory just under one and a half times. So, if your company has a monthly average inventory of $5,000 and a COGS of $7,000, you will have an inventory turnover ratio of 1.4. Scaling manufacturers usually produce more high-end goods. Many assume a scaling manufacturer is just a scaled-down version of a large one - but this assumption could be detrimental to the business. This strategy is successful for large enterprises, so small businesses should seek to copy it, right? It’s an inventory strategy used by manufacturers that mass-produce goods every day. Large enterprises can afford to maintain a high average inventory because they sell a lot and have the funds to offset the required costs. This ratio tells you how many times you fully replenish your stock in a period.įor example, a company might have a vast average inventory but relatively low sales.Ĭan it justify having such large inventory levels if it turns over its inventory only once or twice a year? Well, the answer depends on several factors. It tells you how much you sell as a ratio to what you keep in stock. Inventory turnover ratio is a crucial measure of efficiency, as it calculates how much a business sells as a percentage of its total inventory. Why is inventory turnover ratio important?
